Northern Flickers are big, showy, loud woodpeckers. There are red and yellow-shafted variants. As you can readily see the ones who call the park home have bright yellow feather shafts.
Today I spotted this pair engaging in mating displays, fanning tails and raising their red crests.
As of May 8th all of Chester County remained in a moderate drought, perhaps that will finally change with this week's rains. The rain cut into my time at the park this week a bit, but there's plenty to see this time of year.
