This Week at Nixon Park - July 30 -August 5




Harvestmen (AKA Daddy Longlegs) are nocturnal foragers that feed on aphids and both large and small Milkweed Bugs, they are 'roosting " for the day on these milkweed pods where there prey is likely to be found.

Metallic Sweat Bee (these are difficult to identify to species), Western Honey Bee, Brown-belted Bumblebee, Hibiscus Turret Bee with a load of pollen, Common Eastern Bumble Bee







Goldfinch, Bluebird, Kingbird, Northern Flicker, Juvenile Bluebird, Catbird after a bath, Song Sparrow



Green Heron fledglings seem to be looking after themselves now, leaving tracks around the edge of the pond.




It's been some time since we had a 'resident" Great Blue Heron at the park, this one seems to be hanging around nearly daily.





Monarch Butterfly Caterpillars and The Butterflies themselves, the last being a rumpled recently-emerged Monarch.
